Lu-Anne Cobb of Susanville, California caught this 28# ‘whale’ of a salmon while trolling many miles off the San Mateo coastline aboard the El Dorado, with Captain Robert Gallia, out of Berkeley Marina, Berkeley, CA on 4/27/2013. The fish took approximately 15 - 20 minutes to land and made a few fishermen's jaws drop with envy after our most capable deck hands (shout out to the fellas) scooped the goliath beast into the net and onto the deck. Obviously, it was the jackpot winner on the boat by a large margin and one of the largest salmon caught on the west coast this season. The weather was good and the fishing was frenetic and fantastic all day – truly any angler’s dream day. It seemed everyone aboard was hooked up with fish and we all went home with nice limits of salmon and smiles etched by ‘great fishing tales to tell’ on our faces. Kudos to the professional, hard-working captain and capable crew of the El Dorado for making the experience most pleasurable!
TRUE STORY: Lu-Anne also caught a fishing rod on this trip that a (nameless LOL) deck hand dropped in the drink while passing it down the line with a fish on it. When someone noticed her rod bouncing, she reeled and found that the dropped pole was still attached to her line. Better yet, the fish was still on the gentleman’s rod who originally hooked it and the rod was (somehow/someway) passed back to him and he was able to reel in a beautiful ~12 lb. salmon to the net! Soon after this “Dwight Clark-like” miracle catch, Lu-Anne’s hooked and landed the big salmon. What fantastic times and great adventure it was for all aboard! Lu said: "I’ve been on several dozen ocean fishing adventures and this was the best fishing trip I have ever experienced." It just doesn't get any better than that!!
