It seems the west coast of vancouver island is picking up a bit.Chinooks have shown up in the 15-30 lbd catagory offshore from Uculet and Tofino.Although they seem to be feeding mostly on tiny krill they have been taking spoons and some small hootchies fished between 100-130 feet deep behind a flasher. The purple UV flashers seem to be the ticket. There are some coho inshore that can be taken bucktailing in the prop wash of your boat.A very exciting way to catch coho!Watch them come up 5-10 feet behind your engine to smash your fly.The occasional chinook will surprise you there as well.If you prefer, find the needlefish and let your fly sink underneath,or cast near jumpers.

Halibut are there offshore as well although they too seem to be waiting to feed.Hopefully they will become ravenous and feed like crazy when the sardines and needles show up in force.Try salmon bellies or perhaps the new GULP! squid on a spreader bar. There seem to be a few being taken in the 50 lbd range which is perfect for eating.Don't forget the cheeks!good luck!
