The Blue marlin bite off Bom Bom continues to be excellent and we have so far averaged 2.8 releases per day. Unlike at the beginning of the season in late June when the average fish was between 250 to 300 pounds, as expected, we are now seeing much better fish with 450 - 500 lbs being average and some really big girls showing more often. Biggest released so far estimated at # 850. The number of bites per day might drop a bit but the average weight should go even higher as the season progresses into late August and September.
Yesterday we finished a charter for Dave Stephen, who came here as a marlin “virgin”. In his 8 days of fishing we saw or raised a total of 70 fish, had 49 strikes, 40 hookup’s and 26 Blue marlin releases (average about 400 lbs), plus one sailfish.
28.07 – 12 raised, 6 strikes, 5 hookup’s and 3 releases (250,300,650)
29.07 - 12 raised, 10 strikes, 8 hookup’s and 6 releases (300,250,400,500,250,250)
30.07 - 5 raised, 3 strikes, 2 hookup’s and 1 release (450)
31.07 - 17 raised, 12 strikes, 10 hookup’s and 6 releases (300,500,500,350,200,300)
01.08 - 13 raised, 10 strikes, 8 hookup’s and 5 releases (200,500,400,250,450)
03.08 - 1 raised, 1 strike (no releases – very bad weather, could not fish normal grounds)
04.08 – Just saw one lazy fish on the surface for the day (again bad weather)
05.08 – 8 raised, 8 strikes, 7 hookup and 6 releases (700, 250,350,450,850)
