The Vancouver area is starting to get quite good.Lots of coho and pinks being taken off the local beaches.Small flies in size 4 or 6 seem to be the ticket.Just add a bit of flash and you will get fish.Gear guys have been smashing them on everything from spinners to buzzbombs.the fish don't seem too choosy. There have also been some rumours of guys getting a spring or two off the beaches of Howe sound. Both I heard of were on the fly,but I didn't see the fish myself and therefore can't confirm it.But it's getting to that time so I'm sure there are a few starting to show.
Spring fishing on Vancouver island has been fair to good in places but it seems like there are more coho around than springs.Beach fishing for pinks with the odd coho mixed in is getting pretty good on the west coast of VI.All the usual areas like Qualicum and Campell River seem to be fishing well.
East coast of VI has been good for coho of the 4-8lbs variety. The big boys should start showing in the next week or two and coho up to 20lbs are caught every year.Offshore springs and halibut are there but I haven't heard any reports of it "going off" yet. Most likely still to come.
The Charlottes seems to have a lack of springs but an abundance of coho.If you are going to the Charlottes, make sure you have a fly rod with you.An 8 weight will do you in most cases.
Give a man a fish and feed him for a day.Teach a man to fish...and get rid of him for the whole weekend.
