We went out to 65 feet of water in hopes of grouper and maybe a cobia or two.We fished a small ledge that drops from around 61 to 65 feet. We fished with a variety of jigs and cut bait. Right off the bat I got two grouper in a row and thought it was going to be an action-filled day with big grouper but the grouper fishing was hot, if you like catching small ones. We caught about 15 undersized red and gag grouper and only a few ok sized grouper. Even though the grouper fishing was slow the hog fish and grunts kept us busy while jigging. We moved up and down the ledge and caught a nice permit, big sheephead (nice surprise), lots of sharks on the cut bait so we quit using it. I had a big cobia on that shook the hook right by the boat . We cast at the other cobias that followed him up but we couldn't get them to hit. A large school of porpoise showed up at the end of the day and they're great at spooking fish. Too bad you can't eat those guys because I could have gaffed them they were so close to the boat.
