    Default Maverick Owner's Tournment (Islamorada)

I was fortunate enough to arrive on Wednesday night with Tyler of Castaway Customs (http://www.castawaycustoms.com) as my guest. We braved the 20+ mph winds on Thursday morning and made the trek to Flamingo at sun up. We were greeted with fairly low water and hungry fish. We doubled up multiple times on Snook & Redfish... and ended up with 15+ Snook & 15+ Redfish in a short day's work.

    The hook set...

    The fight...

    The money shot...

One of the many highlights for the day came as I was releasing a fish from one of our doubleheaders, I noticed another fish swimming directly toward us. Tyler was still fighting his still green upper slot fish, so I reset my bait and made a presentation. Without hesitation, the fish devoured the bait and started peeling line. A double-double?

On Friday morning, Jerry and I met at the marina only to find scattered showers and strong winds. We made a quick trip to the store for food & ice, but when we returned no one else had even readied their skiff for the day. When I asked what was going on, the guys jokingly replied "We're waiting for you to lead the way." Needless to say, Jerry & I shoved off and slowly made our way to the familiar waters of Flamingo. We were greeted again by hungry fish, but this time, by several more boats. We still managed many Snook before we harassed Redfish the rest of the day. We caught many upper & over slot Redfish, mixing in a big Snook & 26" Trout.

With Fall upon us, I expect to see and hear of big numbers of fish caught regularly. Tarpon, Snook & Redfish are on the coast and flats... whether you're fishing from a bay boat or skinny mini, you should have plenty of opportunity this month.
