UPDATE:

Todays fishing was nuts !!!! TJ. Nogula and Dean D’anna from Romeo Michigan had a fantastic days fishing with us! They caught and released 14 striped marlin on light tackle. They were fishing with Alex on our Glacier Bay catamaran boat “flying fish 3”. They fought their fish on all light stand-up tackle and 30# test line. Alex said we billed 14 fish and lost 6 fish. What a great day guys! WOOOOO!!!! All fish were released unharmed!

BAJA ANGLERS REPORT OCT 26TH 2008

Some of you have asked that I let you know you if the fishing was say ”off the wall”. Well, here goes ”the marlin fishing is just spectacular!” I mean quit your job, sell the house, and pack your bags. If you want striped marlin on the fly, get down here now!

It’s been 5 years since I have taken my wife “Gisel” fishing. I had been promising her for the last 5 years that when the marlin fishing was good, I would take her out and get her striped marlin on the fly. Well it’s been good at times, but we have always been booked. This year, with the crazy economy, we had some openings, so I kept my promise and took her out this last Friday.

We get to the banks and stop to make bait, but its crazy- almost everytime we drop for bait, we hook up on the green mackerel and then a marlin or two grabs the mackerel on our bait rigs and just snaps us off. Finally we get a few baits up and start fishing.

The marlin are everywhere and we cant figure out where to cast, too many fish around the boat. So I calm down and tease a fish up. Gisel casts to it, the fish eats, then she sets too early. I could be a fault as I told her when to set, actually I lost my cool and was way too excited, no biggie. She stays calm and casts the fly again and hooks up again. Hungry fish, unfortunately he comes off again. She casts the last time and hooks up, sets the hook perfectly and backs up a little, but when the fish decided to take off, Alex gives a little gas to keep things tight, and she held on to the spool and popped the tippet. Adrenaline factor, off the charts!

No time to feel sorry for yourself, we get her the spare 12wt in her hands. Marlin are everywhere, its nuts, they are feeding all around the boat. This time we all take a deep breath and I cast the teaser out again, another fine marlin chases it right to the boat, and another nice cast was made by Gisel. The fish turned and pounced the fly. I mean pounced! Gisel did a perfect hook set and the fish took off. He went ballistic, gray-hounding 250 yards in a matter of seconds. This was a nice fish!

Afetr that, the battle went deep, after about 20 minutes, Gisel is showing some strain and getting tired. Forty minutes into the battle, she looks very pale. Now Gisel doesn’t get sea sick, so something was up. She then lost her breakfast over the side, and I was thinking” I bet she hands the rod over”, but she didn’t let go. She was sick for say 15 minutes or so, then she started to recover. Not once did she stop fighting that marlin. She would lean over the side, lose it, take a few steps back and reel on the fish and then lean over the side again. That a girl! I figured she got a small case of dehydration and heat stroke.

Well after and hour and ten minutes, she got her marlin to the boat. Her marlin was easily 140 lbs. and a fat beautiful fish. We took the hooks out, Alex and I lifted the fish into the boat and took a quick picture. We then put the fish back in the water and billed it alongside the boat for about 10 minutes until it got its color back, and then released it unharmed.

Its so cool to take your gal out fishing, especially if she likes it. Add a striped marlin on the fly, a tough cookie and lot of fun and it makes of a perfect day on the water.

On the way back we come across a log in the water. There had to have been 50 dorado under the log, but Gisel is too pooped to fish anymore, so Alex and I each grab a rod and we catch a few dorado for dinner.

Back at the docks, we pull into Solomon’s bar for a cold beer a fresh fish tacos. Perfect day on the water! My only problem now, is that I will have a hard time keeping Gisel off the boat and in the store.

Offshore fishing: It’s nuts, stupid crazy good for striped marlin, everyone says Mag bay striped marlin Mecca, I say no way, its Cabo!

Plenty of dorado on both fly and light tackle to keep all in the fun zone.

Some YF tuna way offshore. Find the porpoise and good chance your in like Flynn.

Our roosterfish are back, we are catch lots of fun sized roosterfish - 5lbs to 15 lbs.
Lots of shots in a days outing.

Te sierra mackerel are also back, but can be hard to find at times.

This looks like a great start to our fall season!
