Well anglers the fishing has been about as good as it gets. I have been in business for 17 years and through the years the fishing has had its ups and downs but man we must be on the beginning of another 5 year bumper crop.
Last year the fishing began to really pick up since Katrina wiped us out in 05'. Now it looks as if all heck broke loose. The reds are everywhere, trout galore, every Redfish Tournament that comes here breaks every record they had ever set. Man it is good, but heck we are booked everyday, our lodges are booked like crazy, we have to hire more guides, our fly fishing has gone off the charts. When will it all settle down??? LOL!!! I would not have it any other way............. We are just alittle overwhelmed with the amount of business we have gained since the storm, I guess it is what they call growing pains.
Now for the fishing------All of my Captains were out everyday this week except on Thursday. We all did some dock maintenance and worked on our boats, cking oil, tighting props you get the picture.
For the week we had John Graham again, SMI Concrete, Power Units, Willis Co., Mr. Martin Simone, Bogalusa PD, Chuck Johnson, Baker Hughes and Lumber Lifts.
Every boat limited out on specks and reds with some limits of drum also. The specks are really eating up due to the amount of shrimp in the marsh still, our water temps are in the upper 60's but will fall this weekend due to a front. We hope that this front takes out the water for us so the fish will drop into their winter holes. Many of our clients like to fish bottom with artificials but the fish are suspending right now and will not drop until the temps drop.
Our redfishing is off the charts!!! One Wed, all five boats were lined up on one bank catching reds every cast. I bet we caught over 300 reds that day between all of the boats. Nobody really counted because all of the guides were too busy taking off fish.
I had the only fly charter of the week. We took my 24 Triton, and it was a good call. Our fish are not spooky they don't really run, and if they do they only go about 30ft. I got on the trolling motor and Harry was on the deck. He caught 33 keeper trout on the fly out of the 100 trout the guys could catch. He was using a green and white popper and the trout were hitting it as fast as he could get it in the water!!! He only caught 7 reds, but had 13 on during the day.
Well I hope everyone is catching fish and if not come and see us sometime.
