Hey anglers, we are now transitioning to our shallow sight casting and fly fishing and yesterday was my first for the season. Wow the water was so low, the redfish were everywhere but not on the shells. They were out schooled up in the middle of the ponds and creeks. We got on one school that was about 60-80 reds and it was awesome, the fish were all just sitting! Not one was moving, the water temps are around 50deg and these fish were on hold. We polled in and watched them a little then Big D started with a small spoon and the first fish that saw it hammered the thing so fast. The school didn't move too much but they didn't want anything to do with that fish hooked up (very uncommon for our fish because they usually are trying to eat the fly out of the other fishes mouth)they would just move about 40yds and sit. So we would just follow that school around all day. Mr. Sam was the man, he caught a 17lb red on a white and chartreuse clouser and got the ride of his life. The fish tore up through some crazy shallow water and was somtimes in 4-5inches of water going 100mph!!!
Well we finished the day with 21 redfish and 8 drum. We did have a nice largemouth bass on but it spit the hook on the jump. I am going after the big monsters this week but the winds may give us some hell. We will still get it done it will just be somewhat crazy.
