We didn't plan on going out today, but as I was talking to my dad on the phone we were saying that we should have gone because it was such a beautiful day out. I told him it was not to late to put in at Crystal River and head south to Homossassa to try some shallow water grouper fishing for a few hours. He agreed so we rushed around to get the boat ready and got to the ramp at noon and were fishing by 1pm. Stopped at one of our #s in 28 feet, started jigging and the grouper were hungry. We caught a bunch of grouper between 18-25 inches, about 8 or 9 keepers. We only kept 2 because I didn't want to bring any fish home and Dad only wanted 2 for dinner. We also caught a lot of grunts jigging so we put live grunts on the bottom and were jigging with our other poles. The grunts were very big so we did not get many grouper on the grunts, but luckily I did catch one monster 41 inch Gag which made my day. At first when my dad saw me pulling it up in the water he said "you got a jew fish". I'm glad that wasn't the case. We also caught several sea bass and a school of small AJs came by ( AJs were the one fish my dad asked not to catch today) I assured him we would not catch AJs that close in this time of year and I was wrong a school of 14-18 inchers came by for about 20 minutes and then moved on their way. We fished for 3 to 3 1/2 hours with a bunch of fish caught. It was a short , but successful trip.
NOW HERE ARE A COUPLE OF PICS OF THE BEAST!!!

Another great post with some really good pictures. We ventured out to about 55'-60' off Bayport on Saturday and watched for some structure. Found a small spot that was hard to stay on...went out a little farther and finally started pullin legal grouper over the side. Went home with four nice fish...no pics, dead camera...a lot better than what we had been getting, however. Starting to feel a little more comfortable that far out with a 20' boat! Good job as always. Rick
