I got a call from Nigel saying he had a couple of guys who wanted to get out and catch some grouper out of bay port, and he asked if I would be willing to make the trip. He let me know he had some good spots that he caught some grouper at last week and we would be using his boat. I said Nigel how can I turn that down? Nigel was right; he had some good spots with great structure and lots of grouper. The only problem was that he must have caught all the keepers last week because we kept coming up about a 1/2 inch short on all the grouper. After about an hour of catching and releasing shorts I pulled out my GPS to see how close my Homosassa spots were. The closest spot that I had from where we were fishing was on the south side of Homosassa, 20 miles north. Everyone agreed to make the run north and it was a good move. We stopped in 30+ feet and trolled around a cluster of #s and slaughtered the grouper. Within seconds of putting the lures in the water we had our 1st keeper. After throwing him in the cooler we put the lures back out and SLAM!!! double header. Homosassa was on fire. We had several double headers and constant action on the trolling lures. We had our limit so I asked if they wanted to go in a little shallower to set up for cobia and kings but they were all satisfied with the gags so they called it a day early.
A happy crew
