We start fishing this week here in la Gomera, so stay tuned and see how the season unfolds. Loads of bait here and several sightings of big blue marlin by commercials already.....
Capt. Jason Pipe
We went out on our first day fishing and saw lots of bait, whales and dolphins but no tuna. The water looked a good colour and we started to work the bait a few hours went by very slowly and then we had a nice blue marlin of about 550lb come up and eat Black barts super plunger on the short corner. Tagged and released the fish 20 minutes later. One other boat was also fishing and they lost a fish. Lets see how the rest of the week turns out…..
This week we have had our old friend Zyg from anglers paradise fishing with us. We caught 3 blue marlin from 550lb to 650lb and tried to get him a big tuna but to no avail. We spent the last day targeting tuna and managed to get on them once but we didn’t get a bite. The tuna are all around 80-120kg the normal size we see here. Also today two private boats were fishing and one caught a blue of around 600lb and the other boat had 3 blues one of which was 800 + and a spearfish. So looks like the season is off to a good start !!!
We are off for 3 days then back out there……
I am away at the moment and will be back fishing on Tuesday but a friend of mine who is fishing in La Gomera on his private boat caught 2 fish over a 1000lb today, the second one was taken to the scales and weighed 1187lb.
A commercial boat also called me to say he had a big fish swimming around his boat that he wanted out of the way, but I was away!! Spearfish and big tuna were also seen, Back fishing Tuesday, so stay tuned…..
22nd May.
In the last two days fishing we have seen 7 blues, raised 6 and caught 3. All the fish have been over 600lb and the biggest 700+ . We have also seen lots of bigeyes but have still had no luck in getting on them in time.
The commercials have also seen big blue marlin.
Back out tomorrow…..
This last week we have seen no tuna and the water has turned green, so we have had to move further off shore. The first day we had a bite from a small fish around 300lb which hit 3 lures then faded away. The next day we caught a fish of around 500lb, the day after we saw 2 blue marlin feeding but they swam straight past the lures, not interested. Yesterday we saw a fish swim straight past the boat, again not interested and today we caught a nice fish of around 600lb on Bart`s superplunger.
The green water is now only close in shore so hopefully things will improve.
It was our first day out today for a few days. All the other boats had been out this week but to no avail. We caught 2 fish one of 500lb and the other of 600lb. we saw 3 others, 2 feeding and one on the surface. All those were over 500lb. We also saw some real big bigeyes, not many, but really big. Another boat caught a fish today as well.
Cheers,

Fish today of the competition here in la gomera. There were abot 15 fish caught and around 8 lost. not too bad for 28 boats. We managed to raise a small fish in the morning but after a knock down just faded away. Later on we caught a 550 and then a 700. which put us in 2nd place. We also saw alot of big eye tuna and managed to get right on top of them but didn't get a bite !!
June 13th 2009:
Second day in the competition and things have slowed right down, only 3 fish caught to day, but the good news is we get second place and some prize money !!
June 21st 2009:
We haven’t been out this a week and the fishing has been slow but the last two days it has picked up so we decided to go out yesterday afternoon. The day before 4 boats raised about 15 fish so we had to have a look! We left the marina about midday but the fishing had gone slow again, we did manage to catch the only fish of the day which was around 200kg. Let’s see what the new moon brings…..
July 19th 2009:
Fishing has been mad in july. Still seeing loads of fish here. the fish were small around July the 4th but bigger fish have now moved in. On july the 4th we raised 13 fish got 12 bites and pitched the bait to 3 fish just for fun to break the day up. none of the fish went over 450 ! Got some good video footage though. weird raisng all the fish and just watching them crash the teasers until they got bored ! 1 fish just wouldn't leave and we had to remove all the teasers and move on. then get them back in the water...... catching roughly 2-3 fish a day now. best yet 850+ Some big tuna being caught now as well....
We are the only charter boat based in La gomera so anyone wanting to fish here just drop me a mail !
