Well, the Reel Candy Sportfishing crew has been hard at it for the past few days. The dolphin bite is very good with fish ranging from 8 pounders up to 35.
The water color has been off for the past two days so we headed a little south today and did it pay off. We had Mitch Hilburn and Brianna Leben from Ft Pierce Florida along today and they were proud to see three billfish flags flying at day’s end when we got back to the Abaco Beach Resort.
The first fish of the day was a 30 lb Mahi that ate a pitch bait. Mitch made quick work of that fish and we had the skunk off the boat early. Not even an hour into the trip we were into a double of Sailfish that were both released in short order.
About two hours later, a fat 200 lb Blue Marlin decided to eat the squid chain we had running off the dredge reel. Those Crystal electric reels have very loud clickers on them and I can tell you that when they start screaming, everyone on the boat hears it. The Blue would not let go of the squid chain and almost stripped the line from it. We pulled in the long line and dumped a rigger line to get the Blue off the squid. It finally worked and he ate the longest line we had out in the spread.
Brianna was up in the chair and did an awesome job on the rod and reel. I’ve seen many a husky man start complaining about their arm hurting from reeling after only 20 minutes or so. Brianna never once fussed and stayed on this Marlin like a champ. She had the Marlin to the leader in about 20 minutes. After some quick photos, the Blue was released. Congratulations Brianna on your first Blue Marlin !! You got off easy though by taking the plunge in the pool and not the Marina, by the way !!
We will be fishing the next three days, so we will keep the reports coming. Tight Lines Everyone !!
