    Default 38# Snook 200# Tarpon 5/20

The game plan for the day was to go out fairly shallow and get some grouper for my dads freezer since it was empty. Last week after our offshore trip Cameron and I hooked up 2 big Tarpon on our way in so I asked Bill if he wanted to get a few after grouper fishing. He said heck yeah.
We started out in 18-20 feet for the grouper. We tried trolling but there were a bunch of weeds in the water so we stopped over a rock pile and dropped down thread fins and bucktail jigs. We got our limit of grouper a few mangroves and a few hogfish on the jigs. My dad dropped down a large live grunt for the grouper and ended up catching a 38# Snook in 20 feet of water at one of our grouper holes. My dad is not big on pics and was so concerned about getting the big breaded snook back in the water quickly that he told me just to take a few quick pics weigh her and put her back in.
After we got our grouper and a nice snook surprise we headed to shallow water to look for live mullet for bait to catch the Tarpon on. The mullet were not easy to find yesterday but we managed to locate a school and Capt.Bill netted up 14-16 then we headed in to see if the tarpon were ready to play. They were ready. We had one pole set up that me and Bill were going to take turns with and my dad was the designated driver. Bill and I jumped five tarpon and landed one. Its usually the big one that gets away but yesterday the big boy was the one that got landed. Bill estimated the Tarpon at 200#s we lost 4 others between 100-150. Dad thanks for driving we could not have been catching a tarpon driving a boat and taking pics with only 2 people. A big fish like that is definitely a team work fish and we had a great team on the boat to make it happen.

    The beast

Now for some of the Tarpon pics. We missed getting pics of a bunch of the jumps because of how far some of the fish were away from the boat when they jumped but we did get a few pics of some of the smaller tarpon before they shook off.

    and......he is gone :dooh:
