Phenomenal shallow water GROUPER day in C/R 12-13 -Inshore limit reds and trout 12-14

It's been a little while since I have done any fishing in our area because of the bad weather so when Sam called to do a last minute trip I jumped all over it. I ended up doing a shallow water grouper trip with Sam, Tim, and Sam's 6 year old son Ethan. We started out bottom fishing in a hole that drops to 24 feet but is 10-12 feet all around it. I normally troll this area but I wanted to give Ethan a chance to catch some fish before we started getting serious and trolling. Ethan caught some grunts, seabass, and one small grouper on the 2/0 hook and piece of pinfish we gave him and we ended up catching 6 big grouper off the bottom in that one hole. We started trolling the area and ended up catching some of the biggest shallow water grouper I have ever seen. We finished off our 8 gag limit in 2 passes and then trolled around and caught about 20-25 more gags before Ethan started falling asleep watching us. We left the fish biting to get Ethan home but before we took off we caught 6 gags over 36 inches and the biggest one was 42 inches with a few only an inch or 2 behind him in size. The grouper were not only long but FAT. Some of the bigger fish seemed like they were almost as big around as they were long. The best part of the day is that the real big fish were released because we already had our limit of gags on ice so hopefully those big boys will hang out on my spots until I get a chance to get back out there and catch them again. It was actually kind of cool releasing the bigger fish even though my friends didn't think so. :cryin:

I also did a little inshore fishing with Capt. Scott Crown and Sam Yesterday. We caught our limit of trout and reds pretty easy and let a bunch of keepers go. Sorry We didn't take any pic of the fish as we caught them but here is a pic of the 1st 3 reds and 1st 15 trout we caught. I guess up in Horse'isassa most of the trout are 19 1/2 inches long because we were real lucky to have so many quality fish just under the 20 inch mark. Of course we did catch several over 20 and Scott caught a real big trout and I caught a big red that were released. All the fish were caught on skitterwalks. I wish I would have taken pics on the boat of the bigger fish.
