Here is the long story short. We went to 50 foot: nothing at all, then 60: nothing, then 70: nothing, then 80: one keeper gag, then 91 foot at 11AM and we hit the motherload: one gag after another. As soon as the bait got down, we had a fish on. We caught mostly gags, several small 15-18 inch red snapper and some porgies. As it always is in the dead of winter, the grouper were deep. There was nothing in shallow at all, not even bait fish. If you want to catch grouper now with the severe cold weather we have had over the past few weeks, you will need to be very deep. I'm sure if you try hard enough in the 70 foot range you may get some but we were over 65 miles out and in over 90 feet before the fish showed up for us. I wish it was as calm today as it was on Wednesday. We would have been able to make the long run a lot faster and easier. Even though it was a little rough, it was a good way for us to end the season. If you plan on trying to get one last grouper trip in before the 2 month closure, go deep and save yourself the trouble wasting time in shallow. Good luck

That is some good looking fish but those red things must be grouper because they tell me the snapper are almost extinct.
Glad you got out one more time before the closer...Great job on sticking with it......
Great job, thanks for the report!!!
Are those other fish in the box white grunts or porgies or both?
