jigging Grouper,snapper,AJs

I met up with James the owner of HookHer tackle at 7am and we headed out to 55 feet to do some jigging. The grouper and amber jack fishing was on fire. We were using the large flutter jigs because they have great movement as they're falling through the water and are awesome if you're trying to work the bottom for grouper. The fish were biting all day; it never slowed down. We caught a ton of red and gag grouper, only a few good-sized reds, but the big gags were very aggressive . We also caught one small scamp grouper and a few red snapper. I caught one red snapper that was a monster but after I took the jig out of his mouth he shook out of my hand and I accidentally dropped him in the water so I never got a pic of the biggest one. The jigs also produced a bunch of big sea bass and grunts as well as some bonito. The bonito are a good sign because that means the kings and cobia are not far behind them. I didn't see any schools of bait yet but the bait should start showing up in April. The water temp was 57 in the morning and 59 at 3 pm when we headed in. I'll be putting an order in for some flutter jigs for my shallow stuff here in the big bend and some arrow jigs for deep dropping in the Keys and the middle grounds. Only another week or so and grouper will be opened again. Get ready!!

For grouper just lift up and let it fall back down. the jig will do all the work. for the AJs I rip it through the water real fast

Jim, it looks like you are using mono? I thought those jigs needed to be worked using braid?? thanks

I'm using 80# braid with 6 feet of 80# mono leader.
