Thread: Sea Bass?

  1. #1

    Question Sea Bass?

I'm pretty much a novice when it comes to saltwater fishing. I'm Great Lakes homegrown and a Michigan transplant living in Florida and I wanted to explore the saltwater aspect of fishing.

Is it possible to catch Sea Bass in the area?

Can anyone recommend a good place to go get my feet wet?

    fishy,
Are you talking about boat fishing or land/pier/bridge?

I'm not sure but I think sea bass are a deep water catch? Hopefully someone from that side of FL can chime in! BTW, I love eating sea bass, but have never caught one on the west side...

I caught about 50 sea bass at the St Aug jettys the other day. Only problem was they were all under sized.

Sea Bass around here in N. Fla are primarily a winter / early spring time fish...well, the big ones anyway. I had some epic trips this year, for some very large sea bass....seems the cold water helped us alot.

Now that they've spawned...they've moved on. There are smaller ones around, but the biggest greenheads are scarce.

Last time I fished for 'em, we were limiting out (15 per day) per person, we caught fish from 14 up to 19 inches !!... 3 pounders!!

Use cuddlefish to catch a few...then cut up a sea bass...and they'll eat that all day....and with cut bait you can catch several on one bait, as it stays on the hook better.

Oh, and there's nothing better than fried sea bass

Black Sea Bass... I catch em all year long out of Jacksonville from the mayport jetties out twenty miles on any decent bottom structure.

They are a bottomfishing mainstay, especially since the beeliners are off limits

Book you a trip on the Mayport Princess or King Neptune and you should catch your fill. They love squid and cut bait on a chicken rig
