My niece came down from Augusta to spend the holiday weekend with us. She's been in the military over 12 years. She has done 3 tours to Iraq and stationed in Korea for a year. She always wants to go fishing with us but everytime she goes we always get skunked. Whether its with my brother or us we always get skunked. Did I mention ALWAYS? Well I am sure you can imagine how thrilled I was that she wanted to go fishing with us this holiday weekend. Then I remembered it is Memorial day weekend and the least I could do was honor the men and women that protect our country and take a soldier fishing, so I told myself "suck it up tubby and lets go". We get out to 110' and put out our spread and within a few minutes, WHAM! The flatline goes off so I tell Neali how to set the drag and fight the fish.
Let me tell you that I am not sure who was more excited, her catching her first fish or me knowing that the spell has been broken that has lingered over this girl for ever and that we were going to catch some fish today. Neali's first fish, altough a peanut she is happy.
After all the excitement of her first fish and knowing no more bad juju on the boat she leans over to me and says she prayed all the way from home to the ramp "Please God, don't let me be the jinx in the family anymore." So anyways she is still dancing all over the boat.....I caught a fish, I'm not a jinx! From that point on the day got better and the fish got bigger.
At one point Kathy and I were both fighting a fish and thought we had a double knock down but it turned out this gal was hungry and ate both baits.
We all caught fish and we finished out the day with 11 fish kept and some released. We don't normally keep the peanuts but because it was her first fish and and we were not sure how the day was going to end up we decided to keep a few.
Most fish were caught between the 150-200' with the bigger ones in the 190' color of choice was blue and white, and/or dolphin colored skirted ballyhoo.
Good luck and tight lines!
Excellent work there! The only thing I see wrong is that Dallas Cowboys shirt...Tell her thanks for serving!

The only people that tell you it can't be done are the people who haven't done it themselves.
