Chinook salmon on Kandlefish metal jigs / Port Angeles, WA
Despite a poor chinook salmon season, thus far, in Northern Washington's Strait of Juan de Fuca, Kandlefish metal jigs accounted for one of the largest king salmon. Eric Thomson caught, and released, a 45-plus inch king (see photo) on a 1 1/2 oz glow-in-the-dark Kandlefish jig, manufactured by Yellow Bird Products. The fish hit halfway down in 59 ft of water while vertical drift-jigging along the kelpbeds west of Port Angeles. After a 35 minute battle, the fish was removed from the water for 12 seconds for a quick photo and released unharmed. Nine other kings were also brought to the boat...all hatcheries between 18-22 lbs and all on the Kandlefish.
