Default Giants in our Backyard: the Science of Goliath Grouper

The Hollywood Hills Saltwater Fishing Science and Social Club is very
pleased to announce that Dr. Sarah Frias-Torres of the Ocean Research
& Conservation Association will speaking at our next meeting on April
27th, 7 pm, at Boson Johnny's Bar and Grill, 2120 N Dixie Hwy,
Hollywood, FL 33020, SW corner of the intersection of Lee St and
Dixie Highway in Hollywood (95 to Sheridan St East, right onto Dixie
Highway to Lee St on RHS). The topic of her talk is "Giants in our
Backyard: the Science of Goliath Grouper." Goliath grouper (jewfish)
are the largest grouper fish in the Atlantic ocean, and the second
largest in the world. They have been protected in the U.S. since 1990,
and elsewhere they are either critically endangered or extinct.
Goliaths live in Florida's backyard, in mangroves and coastal reefs.
These gentle giants have a fascinating biology and they might be one
of the few allies we have against the lionfish invasion. In this talk,
you will learn about the most recent scientific developments and have
all your goliath grouper questions answered. I hope to see you all
there. As with all of our meetings, they are free and open to everyone.

I hope to see some of you for this very nice multi-media presentation on Goliath Grouper and the discussion that
follows. Some folks think that it is time to sell permits for
selecting harvesting of GG in some areas, should be an
    interesting discussion!! cheers, O
