Default 5-8-2011 Port Saint Lucie Offshore Fishing Report:

Happy Mothers Day to all the mothers out there :usa:

Taking Emmerson and JT (or is that Trim Tab :biglaugh: ) out today in hopes of catching some Cobia. Saved a Bonita from yesterday in the fish box along with all the left over baits to use as chum. Picked up 20 baits from the bait guy then ran south and loaded up again on Sardines and Cigar Minnows.

Heres the boats at Bullshark loading up on baits.

Click the picture below for a quick video.

Heres Tuna Man... How you guys make out today Don?

Heres Trim Tab (JT) catching some baits at the barge :biglaugh:

We headed to the Cobia mecca of the south and soon after chumming we hooked up on two sharks. Heres Trim Tab on a big shark. Note the spinning rod hes using. Slightly over matched.

Emmersons hooked up as well on a much stiffer rod.

Emmerson passed off his rod to JT whos fish came unglued. Emmerson was tired out and couldn't finish the fight :biglaugh:

Heres the outcome of the 20 minute flight.

No Cobia under the shark so we continued to stay anchored up waiting... Minutes later JT hooks up on Cobia and fights this fish to the boat. Hes on the too close to call list so we opted not to gaff him and just that quick, JT got his new nick name, Trim tab :biglaugh: The cobe made a mad dash to the back of the boat and got cut off on the tab :bang:

A school of Cobes swim by and Trim Tabs hooked up again. This time on a keeper Cobia for sure. We sink the gaff in this green fish as he hits the deck going nuts... Congrats JT on the nice catch

Scuppers (Paula) and Mike pulled up into the neighboorhood. How'd those grabs work for you Scuppers :biglaugh:

We uprooted from our digs and headed offshore. Hit the AJ spot and put JT on the bite in short order only to have issues with my fishing reel. He lost one massive fish to a straightened hook and the next gets cut off by a toothy critter.

We decided to run to the Hill to see if the BFT has shown up today. We set out the daisy chains and a couple of lures on the short lines (flatline clips). We get hooked up in short order on the right flatline on a green and yellow feather lure that Vindawg gave me.

Heres Trim Tabs BFT he caught on the Daisy Chain...

Heres JT doing his imatation of John Daly.

    Todays Tally:

2 Cobes - 1 boxed and the other leadered before cutting off on the Trim Tab by Mr. Trim Tab himself :biglaugh: ... All in good fun JT...
    1 Nurse Shark - About a 200 lber.
    2 BFT's
    3 Bonitas
    1 Bullet Bonita

How did you all do today?

    Random pics on the day:

Gotta love those shoes Emmerson :biglaugh:

    Tip of the day: 5/8/2011:
    Being prepared for the bite:

•Heres what I bring (fishing tackle wise) aboard my boat on every trip.

•Main tackle bag. Note the (4) different color zipper pouches inside. This makes it easier for me to grab the color bag for the rig that I need at the spur of the moment.

•The blue pouch carries my live baiting rigs.

•The brown bag carries my bottom rigs.

•The black bag carries my BFT daisy chains and tuna rigs

•The tan bag carries my large daisy chains and rigs.

Also in the bottom of this bag is a small tackle box we all the items needed to re-rig some of the gear that might get toothed

•This is my trolling ballyhoo bag. It has all the skirts pre-rigged with rigging springs and haywire twist tag crimped into the hook crimp to allow the springs to be held onto the rig. It also carries my crimping tool, crimps, trolling hooks etc. All items needed to re-rig as needed. I also have made up some pre-made rigs with hooks, haywire tag and springs incase one of the rigs need a replacement. This is important when that one lure keeps getting hit and you need to replace some chafed line.

•This is my trolling lure bag. This has all the skirts I troll without ballyhoos.

Hope this helps some one

Great report!!! You really know how to hang 'em. I'm a new member and fish out of Jupiter on my Proline 21 express. I have caught everything from dorado to snapper out there but I have yet to hang a sail or a BFT. What is your favorite lure to catch BFTs? It is a pleasure reading your posts and keep it up! Hope to see you on the water!

    Awesome pics and report.

Congrats to "trim tab" on his keeper Cobe.

Great job on the gear organization.
    This too shall pass.
