Default They don't build them like they use too.

I think we are slowly slipping into this floating condo foo foo stuff. Any more most production boats are getting further and further away from fishing boat. I know some people like to use there boats for more then fishing, and that's fine there needs to be a happy medium. I work on what would be considered by the builder as a 70 foot sport fishing boat. This so called "sport fishing boat" doesn't even have enough room in the cockpit to put the foot rest out where it needs to be and still walk in front or behind the chair with out hitting your knees or turning sideways. It does however have a walk in pantry behind the galley and 4 staterooms and 5 heads. The ride is great and it is fast so you can go pretty much when ever you want a get there way faster then any one else your size, but put 5 guys in the cockpit and it's crowded. We are worried about killing a blue marlin in the upcoming BBC you dont have anywhere to put a qualifier. The only place big enough is the master stateroom, it wont fit in the cockpit unless we saw out the mezzinine. You want to be competitive in tournaments travel all around and fish, in my opinion it is twice as hard to do on the new age sport fishing boats. I miss the custom boat days of big cockpits no $500 statues in the salon and easy to maintain paint jobs. Sorry for the rant I'm just tired of 68 feet of useless sleeping and eating quarters and 2 foot of space to make dreams come true.

    What he said.

Always puzzled me, Sporties with small cockpits. That cockpit is what a fishing boat should be built around IMHO.
    This too shall pass.

Cool Re: They don't build them like they use too.

4 staterooms? I’ll sleep in the fightin’ chair. I must admit though, as I get older the 5 heads do have a certain degree of attraction….

I don't know Pitch, Ocean Yachts' Billfish 37, all of the Albemarle line up and most of the Vikings are all still built for fishing 1st. And the layout of the newest Cabo Express is pretty impressive as well. And don't forget Henriques, more cockpit per ft/length than any of them.

My point is they still build the boats, it's up to the buyers to choose.

I would agree on the Henriques and the 37 Billfish. I work on a Viking and it the furthest thing from a fishing boat, from a fishing point of view.

Hey, at least you get to work to fish . I know what you mean though. The very little bit of work I have done on big boats I have seen both types. I do like some of the luxuries of the style you mention, but to be honest I like the bare bones battle wagons best. No nonsense fishing machines!
