So, I've given up on FloridaSportsman site - down for 3 days. Too bad;
bye- bye.
Questions: Any one know if it's practical to run in a flats boat (Hells BAy - 60 HP) from Port Charlotte to Pine Island and Sanibel? Or is that too far? How about to Estero Bay? I'm thinking maybe on flat calm days only.
I like the homes in PC but I think the fishing is better around PI and Estero Bay.
Thanks!!!!!

Look at a chart and wichever way the wind is blowing stay on the other side. Hopefully wind is from the west and you can stay inshore behind the barrier islands. Where are you putting in Port Charlotte?
Perhaps you could trailer down here? Try it a couple times to get the feel for the area, then decide if you'd rather make the run or trailer.

I'd be leaving Little Alligator Creek. The realtor says the fishing is great around those mangorves - I think called Myakka point or something. Snook, Reds, trout, everything to Marlin. But they will tell you what ever you want to hear. I really don't know. Hopefully it is good but I'd like the option to run down to PI and Sanibel if it is possible. I think Estero Bay is too far. But if I could get to those places maybe I'd consider the house. My other option is to buy one I saw in S Ft Myers - 15 mins to Estero Bay 1/2 hr to Gulf.
I think your realtor is actually right about the fishing right up there but between alligator creek and bull bay and turtle bay you will find all the fish you want.
Summer tides mean high water so most mangrove shorelines will be holding Reds and Snook. There are plenty of fish close to you without running to PI or Estero. Follow the link below to a chart of Charlotte Harbor.

You won't have any problem with your boat unless "small craft warnings" have been posted. I 'm out in Charlotte Hbr (primarily working the "east wall" but going over to the "west wall" if there a good falling tide) and Pine Island Sound on almost a daily basis. I run out of Alligator Creek in a 16' Sea Squirt with a 50hp Johnson.
Have fun but leave my red fish alone! The commercial fishing contest "sportsmen" azz holes have got them all scattered and panicked!
