Thread: Jersey Makos...

    Default Jersey Makos...

Earlier than usual... They have started to show. Two I know of for cape may boats in last day or so... I'm primed and ready. Reading water temp charts and following reports of their food source locations all in preperation for the short but lovable of opur favorite cobalt missiles...

Where the hell are you? Last I thought you were in the Bahamas......
The only people that tell you it can't be done are the people who haven't done it themselves.

Back on this side in Palm Beach Gardens... Engines still warm on the boat but I already got the bug to keep movin and few things on earth flip my pancakes more than the black eyed buzz saws of the polar ice cap (or at least Jersey). Last year I was imprisioned on that pile of sand they call Bimini til the run was over... This year I have the window to go ruin a few of their days...

Well that certainly was a strange drive by... Any way back to the game at hand... Numbers starting to show up there... I can't sleep... I can't function. One track mind taking over. Try to count sheep and Baa Baa keeps getting hammered before it reaches the fence. I see the dark blue of the back with lamb bits sticking out each side of its mouth as it swims back across the field to wait for another ambush on the next of Bo Peeps flock...

The ringer on the Deep hotline went off late in the night. "Deep we may fish South Jersey Shark tourney... If we go are you available?"
    "Do bees buzz?"

So, not sure if its a go yet but I never wait last minute. Suddenly tying over twice as many rigs as I need for the one tourney I am booked for doesn't seem as stupid as when I did it... I lit up the 31 and plowed through 4-6' slop to aquire a supply of "secret worms". In part I filled that order but need to take a second run to fill in any missing items on my shopping list.

The rolling tackle box is being altered to tote the impliments of destruction specific to this species. Packets of Bernaise sauce and kabob skewers have taken their place in the dinner preparation station awaiting fresh ingredients to make the meal complete. Sneaky secret tricks and notes written in hyroglyphics are strewn through the soccer mom mobile unit turned death machine. Tail ropes, temp charts, torture devices all in a line... Eyes focused on something I cant see yet... Head in right place... Make it happen Deep! Be the fish!

Lot of buddies crushed em yesterday... Played with the toys of the trade til the wee hours... Close my eyes and I hear clickers. Open them and torpedo shapes in the shadows... I try to relax but feel the squeeze of the leader against my gloved hands as I drift off to merciful sleep... I'm greeted on the other side by jagged pearl white teeth with their razor edges. Black eyes before me peer into my soul now on fire... We are combatants but love and respect each other. Each side will do what they must to achieve their end goals...
No word on SJ yet. Fingers crossed. Two more weeks til the next will wear deep grooves in what remains of my soul.

    Tough day today.
Started off on the 31 getting ready to go bait fishing. I have enough but wanted to "cull" what I have and hand pick some perfect ones... Port motor quit. So begins the trouble shooting game... Figure out "Lifting" fuel pump not working. Blow a couple fuses. Bang on it some. Cuss and swear and finally get working. Too late to get out though...

Then the call comes in from Cape May. Boat I was looking to get on for SJ Shark is overloaded with 9 guys and no room for me... Stand down mode... Gotta shrink my bait supply to one I can carry quick and light for the second tourney because for that one I'm gonna be squeezed on time and room in the rolling tackle box...
