Question Assistance Please - New Member

I am ending my tour in Iraq and the wife would like to relocate to Florida, particularly Palm Coast/St. Aug as her family is there. Being from Hawaii, I am accustomed to fishing exotics no more than 20 miles offshore. That being said, how far does one have to travel offshore to chase Ahi/Dolphin/etc.? Could you salts please tell me if its worth shipping a boat with a 100 mile range to Florida? I've fished San Diego quite a few times and one would have to go on a multi-day trip just to chase exotics, which I would hesitate shipping my boat as I would need a longer range to go after Ahi.

    I appreciate the feedback.

I have a friend that fishes out of St. Aug and he catches them around 40-50 miles offshore. I wouldn't try that in a boat with a 100 mile range.

And thank you for serving our country!

I can tell you that if you are going to live in Palm Coast the closest inlet is Matanzas. It is a natural inlet, probably the worst on the east coast. Running the inlet can be treacheruos at times, lots of sandbars. Once you get out there are some good reefs and wrecks to fish 10 to 15 miles out. There are times like last week when you can get Mahi within 10 miles of shore. Usually that depends on water temp and wind direction. St Augustine is a much safer inlet that is navagible.
