Question on the recent Dolphin (Mahi mahi) season....
Hello,
I am trying to complete a report on the dolphinfish. The report is specifically targeting how the population is performing, specifically in the South Florida Atlantic region of water. The fishery is known world-wide to be one of the best for the Coryphaena hippurus, and recently there have been reports of the species being caught in less and less numbers and the size of them being relatively smaller than seasons past. I have also heard of fishermen traveling as far as forty miles for a shot at catching them. I am concerned because Sportsfishing is a large part of the South Florida tourism draw, also that the fish supports a great amount of the local markets and restaurants. I believe it is a concern that not only incudes the fishing and conservation communities, but it also includes the South Florida business community. I am asking if any of you can post or describe how the recent season has been for you and anglers you know. The more information you can post, the better. I'll leave my e-mail at the bottom of this post if you wish to contact me directly.
