My favorite time of year for fishing is here. Sleep late and catch fish. The water temperatures are dropping fast. This time of year brings the fish up onto the sun baked flats in the afternoon. The Reds have been scarce, water is still dirty so sight fishing is out. The levels are way up, so a lot of fish are back up in the Mangroves out of play. Had 1 Rat this week. Snook are still at the inlets, but are almost non-existent on the flats. Results that I have gotten from the last 2 tournaments back this up. No slot Snook brought in. The Trout remain solid. This week there were 8 short and 1 over slot. A good Trout was lost at the boat. she slipped out of the flat net that I have been using. An easy six pounds. Lure of choice a 1/16th ounce gold spoon, hard enough time landing the smaller fish much less a 6 pounder. Why the small spoon? The glass minnows have finally appeared and when they are around, smaller is better. The bait in this area was more plentiful than it was in Grant last week. The winds are back up again so it will be a few days before the fishing gets easier.
