The area that I fished this week was driven not by the fishing, but by the fact that Hale Groves has #2 Grapefruits for sale. A big grocery bag full is only $7. Two bags help keep the war department and friends on the smiling side.
Did not boat any fish this week. Spent the day island hopping and wading. Think that this may have been the last week for shorts. May have to go to waders next week. Managed to land 14 short Trout. They are in the pockets off of the islands. Best Trout of the day weighed in at 4.25 pounds. This area is still holding micro and mini Jacks. One of the holes started showing Trout. Had 5 of them. Then the baby Jacks and Lady fish moved in. A lot of fun but not the target. For people looking for the 3 foot mark on the water, in most of the areas that will be right on the edge of the Mangroves. Most of the time I can reach out and touch the bushes and still be waist deep. Don't look back up under the Mangroves. This week I had a big Flounder swim by. She was working the back side of the roots. In another pocket a pair of big Sheephead were working back up under cover. Maybe someday in this life time I'll break down and try a live Shrimp. Have one of the better anglers, live baiter, that has promised me a memorable trip if I will break down and fish live bait.
The water is still way too dirty to be sight fishing for Reds. The mud bays are holding plenty of Mullet, but the Reds are not in the mix yet.
