Hey all, Capt. Ken Gallop of Big Kid Sportfishing based out of Brielle, N.J. We have been heading to our local artificial reefs known as the Axel Carlsen Reef, Sea Girt Reef which is just outside our inlet Manasquan Inlet along with heading to the Northern areas of the inlet known as Shrewsbury Rocks, the Rattlesnake, and 17 fathoms to target tautog. Also known as blackfish, molly george, and tog.
This week we have been heading north to the rattlesnake in 60 feet of water with the baits of choice being green crabs and white legger crabs. The average size we have been getting are three to four pounds along with some up to eight pounds with almost every trip producing limit catches.
All indications are showing that the bite will be going on for a while being that the water temperature is 54 degrees and the tog could withstand much colder temperatures than that! Looking forward to a long tog season up here as long as the temperatures stay up.
