First stop of the day resulted in absolutely nothing. The water was just clear enough to see that there was nothing moving on the Flat. Next stop to play in the mud. Nothing in my favorite pocket so I eased over to another Mangrove Shoreline. Potential success Mullet were moving just off the edge of the grass. A quick cast with the Berkley Gulp resulted in a 3 pound Red. Worked on around a point, spooked another Red. A cast to an area that she may have moved to resulted in a 22 inch Trout. Moved to another Spoil Island and picked up a 4 pound Red on a Rapala XRSS-8. The only other fish off the islands was a pair of small Flounder. On to a residential canal. Fishing the area looking for Snook. No luck. Landed 5 Trout that were close to the Slot. Then it was on to the real playground. Nothing on the front side of the canal. At the back side a fish was rolling on the shallow flat and another was crashing bait on the edge of the Mangroves. First cast, a 22 inch Trout. A few casts later and another 22 inch Trout. Both of these Trout were caught on the Rapala. All three of the 22 inch Trout were heavy. Worked another area and boated a 20 inch Trout. Fished the cut on the way out and landed a short Red. The catching is definitely improving. Hoping that my leg will finish healing so that I can wade the Grant area next week, and catch a few more big Trout. The weather is great so get out and catch a few.
