While she had an incredible set of lungs that were dual purpuse. Easy on the eye and produced one hell of a note. She was far from perfect and leaving in her late 40's was probably the result of no good. Netman

I've posted this on another forum, but it's appropriate now, I think. A friend of mine wrote the following open letter to the governor of New Jersey I think he's dead-on with what he says:

    Dear Governor Christie,

Do I have this right ? You're ordering flags on public buildings in New Jersey to be flown at half-staff on Saturday in honor of Whitney Houston ? Really ? Really ? Whitney Houston ? Really ? Are you kidding me ? Is this some twisted joke ?

I find it incredulous that the stalwart conservative you claim to be, the self proclaimed defender of family values, the future leadership of our country, could possibly find it appropriate to invoke a sacred tradition, reserved for our fallen defenders of freedom and notable public servants, in "honor" of a pop culture figure.

Let's get this straight. Make no mistake. Whitney Houston had a God given gift, arguably "the greatest voice of all time". She had the proverbial world in her hands. She had beauty. She had wealth. She had fame. She had everything anyone could possibly want or dream. She also chose to flush it all down the toilet in pursuit of a never-ending euphoria by using and abusing alcohol, pharmaceuticals, and street drugs.

Obviously there is a certain tragedy to her death. But the greater tragedy is the life she led and the true legacy she left behind. This woman you have chosen to honor as a hero, can by no stretch of one's imagination, be held up to our youth and country as one whose life should be emulated, approved of, and worshipped. She was not the icon of purity and virtue that you want to hold her up to be. She was not Rosa Parks. She was not Coretta Scott King. She was not Mother Teresa. She was not Princess Diana. She was simply an entertainer who chose a path of self destruction in spite of the support and means to proactively address her destructive addictions. That was the life Whitney Houston freely chose. This is not a judgment on her life, that is for God. These are just the facts.

As a military veteran, I find your decision to honor a woman who glorified drug abuse, thumbed her nose at the law of the land, and whose most memorable quote was "Crack is Wack", in this manner to be both despicable and reprehensible. Did you lower the flag to half-staff to honor, each time, one of the 110 actual heroes of New Jersey perished in Iran and Afghanistan while defending liberty and freedom ? Why not ? Surely they sacrificed far more for New Jersey and our country than did Whitney Houston in her sad, pathetic, drug entrenched life. I rather doubt that she is the role model you have your children follow, but then politicians such as yourself will pander for political positioning at any price, banking on the public's short memory.

While I have admired your efforts to gain control over your state's fiscal woes, this decision does nothing less than desecrate the memory of the real heroes for whom this tradition was meant. How little you must truly value and respect the service of our military and all of those who have worn the uniform of our country to pay homage and honor to a common junkie.

You sir, by this act, have shown yourself for who you truly are. One whose own judgment is considerably less than his rhetoric and one not to be entrusted to uphold and honor this age old hallowed practice intended for true servants and heroes. You want to honor Whitney Houston ? Fine. But not at the expense of the honor and memory of those who gave all.

One more thing Mr. Governor. Contrary to Whitney's signature song, "The Greatest Love" is not learning to love yourself, but rather being willing to lay down your life for your brother, John 15:13.

You have clearly chosen to believe the words of Whitney. I choose to believe The Word of God.

    Most Sincerely,

SCIENTISTS, DOCTORS, CORONERS, EVEN CONGRESS HAS BEEN TRYING TO IDENTIFY THE CAUSE...THE ROOT OF WHITNEY HUSTON'S DEATH... I WATCHED THE LAST VIDEO CLIP AIRED ON CNN OF HUSTON THROWING A TYPICAL SUPERSTAR SHITFIT IN A BAR....DRUNK ON HER ASS.... THIS IS HOW I REMEMBER HER....NOT AS A ROLE MODEL...NOT AS A GREAT SINGER....BUT A TOWN DRUNK....

IT'S NOW BEEN WEEKS SINCE SHE WAS FOUND IN HER TUB DEADONDECK........IF IT WERE ME WERE LYING ON THE CORONER'S SLAB DEAD AS HELL, IT WOULD TAKE THEM A MERE 2 MINUTES TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF MY DEATH.....BUT THIS IS THE GREAT HUSTON....HOW ARE WE GOING TO HIDE THE TRUE CAUSE OF HER DEATH-THAT IS WHY THERE IS SUCH A DELAY

WOULDN'T SURPRISE ME TO HEAR THAT THEY FOUND A COUPLE EMPTY BOTTLES OF 20/20 BLOCKING HERE DIGESTIVE TRACT....

BUT WE WILL NEVER HEAR THAT.....NOPE....WE ARE GOING TO HEAR SOME PUBLIC OFFICIAL ANNOUNCE AT A PRESS CONFERENCE THAT THERE WAS AN EXPLODING ANEURYSM OR THAT SHE DIED FROM A SOUTH FLORIDA MOSQUITO BITE....CNN WILL GET ALL RAMPED UP ONCE MORE AND THIS REPORT WILL SMOTHER THE AIR WAVES FOR YET ANOTHER WEEK

WE WILL NOT HEAR SHE DIED FROM ALCOHOL POISONING...WE WILL NOT HEAR SHE DIED FROM DRUG OVERDOSE...WE WILL NOT HEAR SHE DIED OF HEAD TRAUMA DUE TO FALLING IN THE TUB DRUNK.....THAT WOULD HAMPER FUTURE DOWNLOADS FROM ITUNES....NOPE....NONE OF THE ABOVE....

WHAT DO YOU THINK WE WILL HEAR IN THIS SOON TO ARRIVE CORONERS REPORT?
