Default ANYONE REMEMBER LOS BRAVOS & "BLACK IS BLACK"?

    "I WANT MY BABY BACK!"

OKAY, LET'S ASSUME I AM A FISH.....I AM SWIMMING AROUND LOOKING FOR A MEAL LET'S SAY 200 FT BELOW THE SURFACE.....I LOOK UP.....WHAT IS THAT? A BIG BAIT POD? MUST BE! ......LETS CHECK IT OUT....

WHAT IS A BOAT TO A FISH? WHEN A FISH SEES A BOAT HULL WHAT IS IT TO HIM? A WHALE, A SCHOOL OF PORPOISE?....A MANTA RAY?...A SCHOOL OF SARDINES? A SCHOOL OF BUNKER OR BONITO?

PICTURE YOURSELF SWIMMING DOWN DEEP LOOKING UP AT THE HULL OF A BOAT....IF THE HULL IS BLACK IT PROJECTS A DARK SHADOW SILOHETTING AGAINST THE SKLINE AND IS HIGHLY VISIBLE FROM DOWN UNDER....THIS IS THE SAME EXACT LOOK A FISH GETS.....IF YOUR HULL IS WHITE OR BLUE THEN JUST HOW VISIBLE TO A FISH ARE YOU? ARE YOU ATTRACTING FISH TO YOUR SPREAD BY ALL MEANS POSSIBLE?

YOU DECIDE.....DO YOU WANT YOUR HULL WHITE OR BLACK? EBONY OR IVORY? DO YOU WANT YOUR HULL TO RESEMBLE A BAIT POD OR A SCHOOL OF FEEDING FISH? OR WOULD YOU PREFER YOUR BOAT TO RESEMBLE A BEAUTIFUL PUFFY WHITE CLOUD...???

SPEED IS COOL AND ALL THAT.....BUT MY 23' GRADY HULL IS LOS BRAVOS BLACK ON BLACK.....AND MANY OF YOU HAVE FISHED ON THIS RIG COME IN DOT COM GOT HIM ON!

    JUST SAYIN'...........

I agree with the black hull. Don't have the offshore experience you have, but a black hull is a must. My little inshore boat used to be green with a black bottom. I caught all kinds of fish when the bottom was black. I painted the hull marsh brown so I could duck hunt. Next season didn't catch as many fish. Mid summer and my numbers are way off. Now we caught some fish but nothing like I was use to. Started looking at old photos and it smacked me in the face. Only difference was the hull color on the bottom. Took a weekend and painted her up. Black bottom back again and catch numbers increased!.

I bought a 20 ft cc in December at auction. It is an older VMRC patrol boat and it had fresh coat of blue antifoulant.
The first I will do after installing rod holders and electronics and getting the nuances out, will be to paint the bottom black!!

Hull Color is one thing and if you ask 10 different people you'll probably get 10 different answers (depending on what color their bottom is.) I like black, but there's a boat in OC that has caught more tunas since I've been here and it has a green bottom. I've personally seen this boat suck tunas up like a vacuum cleaner with a half a dozen or so other boats around who couldn't buy a bite. That being said, I still like a black bottom. I can only imagine what fish think when they feel the Samurai in the neighborhood and look up and see that beast from the bottom, its a HUGE silhouette.

What about painting squid silhouettes or little tunas all over the bottom of the boat?????

I've never done it and never fished on a boat that has so I can't really say one way or another. Seems like an awful lot of work added to an already miserable job (painting a bottom) for it not to make a considerable difference to me....

Interesting. I fish with buddy boats using alot of the same technics, not that we crush the fish every trip out, we just tend to do a little better. One of our trips, one of the guys fishing his white bottom boat in our group was ready to rip the radio out of the console if we hooked up one more time, he ended up getting out of radio range and sunk the steel in a stud. A different buddy had one of his best days on our black bottom boat. His is Carolina Blue on White... looks good... ours is fadded out black bottom paint going on six years of trailering. Hmmm, Netman

I had never really thought about it that way. Glad my boat is a dark blue bottom!
