TUNA FRENZY ON POPPER IN PANAMA
by comefishpanama » Tue May 29, 2012
This weeks Angler’s Steve Esala from Florida and son Andy Esala who is currently serving in the U.S Navy came down here looking to target their 1st ever Marlin since they have heard so much about Panama and it’s Marlin Fishing.
Come Fish Panama were glad to have this opportunity to provide that fishing for them. After arriving and settling in at the Lodge with a broom of Cocktail’s, fresh Cevichi followed by a wonderful Panamanian cooked meal this Father & Son Team were ready for a few games of Billiard and Dart games before calling it a night for the early Dawn Patrol Call..
The Call came and after a nice breakfast off and running on the “Sweet Leilani” towards Isla Montuosa to locate the Marlin. Once arriving the fishing grounds the Yellowfin Tuna were BUSTING out of the water and these two were ready for some Popper Fishing Action. Having not done so in the past these two got a hold of the right technique pretty quick.
Popping here in Panama for just about anything is pretty exciting, with the Yellowfin Tuna exploding on their popper it was a site to be seen. After landing and fighting all day long with Yellowfin Tuna we were set on our way back to the Lodge when we came across a school of Mullet Snapper feeding on Topwater ( Caballitos) sardines, so once again Popper Action at it’s best..
All I will say is that fresh Mullet Snapper was going to be provided on the BBQ along with Yellowfin Tuna- Sashimi, Seared, and Grilled were on the menu on this night….
