Port Saint Lucie Offshore Report:

Plan was to fish yesterday but the morning rains canceled that trip. I watched the news last night and they said the storms were to stay onshore due to the winds switching and coming out of the east. When I walked outside yesterday morning the winds were still coming from the west at 2am.

We had today open to fish so we opted to postpone our trip till today. Taking Paula (Scuppers) and Scott out in hopes to bend some rods on some fins and sails today. A special thanks to those who fished yesterday and posted up a report. It sure is nice having an idea where the bait and bite is before heading out :thumbsup

Picked up some baits from the bait guy just in case and headed out in search of some sardines to top off the wells. Hit all the usual spots and loaded up the most sardines at Bullshark.

They were not picky like last weekend but I was ready with some secret spray on the rigs just in case. See the Tip of the day further into this report to find out what this stuff is. We caught bait with it on one rig but the rigs without it worked as well so not sure if it was working good or just that the bait were just hooking up on anything in the water.

Picked up and headed offshore. Stopped at shrimpers and marked some bait there as well. Headed out from here and stopped just southwest of the Hill on a nice weedline and worked this for a bit. Here is Fishinbuddies trolling the line.

This is Scotts first trip offshore fishing so any fish he catches today will be a first. Here is his first Hammerhead :thumbsup

Pulled in the lines and ran out to 700ft to some nice weeds. Paula spots a floatation device for a pool and as we put out the chunks and liveys the Chinese Fire Drill was on...

One of the fins were only 19" so we tagged and released it. Here was the location of that fin...

She was hiding her face above so I made her lower the fish :grin



Spotted this guy when we were out in 1000ft



After searching for debris and more fins 20+ miles offshore we locked in the AJ spot and made a beeline to it stopping at various debris and weeds along the way. We get into 300ft and found some boat size weed patches. We set out the dines and minutes later Scotts line starts smoking. We had the downrigger and 2 other lines out. Not time to get all that in so we tightened up the drag in hopes of stopping this fish before we got spolled.

No luck. Popped the line just before we seen the gold spool. At least we got all the line back. Sure wish we could have chased that fish down:banghead

Continued westward and as we were pulling up to the AJ spot there was an awesome weedline just west of it. We opted to go drop in some dines and slow troll them northward along this weedline. We get to the end of it and circle around to the west side of it and headed back south.

As the lines past the last patch the short line (30ft off the back of the boat) has a sailfish on it but he spit out the bait. Then the right rigger pops and that sail spits out the bait, I drop it back and still nothing. Start reeling it in slowly and the sailfish swats at the bait one more time. I drop back again and FISH ON...

Scotts sailfish is #54 caught aboard the AF and the 33rd first timer... Congrats again Scott on an awesome job getting the fish to the boat. :thumbsup



Scott, this chart shows you the best months for BFT. The BFT bite is more dependent upon water temps I think more than anything else. Let me know if you want to head out again sometime. I am booked through August as of right now.

Tip of the day- Maybe

The past 3 trips out the baits were thick but they were not chewing. It took forever to load up on the dines. I picked up some Gulp Alive Shrimp spray. Simply spray a little on each hook and drop it into the school of bait. It is like magic (I think). As stated above, we were catching baits on all rigs with or without it. The true test will be when the baits all around and not chewing to see if it works.
