Some days are ordinary and there are days you just know it is going to happen. However, those days generally comes with a price but you just have to bite the bullet and do it. The weather condition was snarly and nobody in the right mind would even think of going fishing—but that was just an added incentive to make the track...and according to my logs, it had the ingredients of exceptional catches. The national weather forecasted hurricane and tornado warning with severe thunder / lightning predictions to add some extra excitement. This time I called my friend Nick from Saltwater Sportsman magazine to join my adventure. I drove from SW Florida to Nick’s house in Orlando, and trekked to the Atlantic Ocean beaches. We arrived during the peak of the flood tide and carefully packed our arsenal and off we went to fight the elements. Our mission was to use the Tactical Anglers product line and to document our trip with pictures and whatnot.
Overall, we had a steady South and South West 30 knot gusts which made jetty casting interesting (but on the bright side, we didn’t have to worry about mosquitoes bites). By the end of the night, we dropped several quality fish and tallied six Snook from 32” to a whopping 48”, which was caught by Nick. In addition, yours truly connected into a 200 lbs. + Silver King only to watch 400 yards of my 65lbs. Braid and 100 yards of mono backing smoke out from my burning reel.
As the daylight started to break, I received a pressing text message from my fiancé that there were massive and severe conditions heading our way. We felt it coming and quickly packed out stuff - and had a great sushi lunch to celebrate our trip.
