Today I am taking out Leighton and his son Jalen and nephew Jordan. Grabbed some baits from the bait guy again just to insure we have some. Headed offshore around 6am to some more calm seas. Goal was to locate some fins. Took Leighton out a few times before and never could get him his first fin.

Hit Bullshark and picked up some sardines, goggle eyes and cigar minnows. Here was the Wal-Mart parking lot at the barge this morning.

Headed offshore and picked up a couple blue runners for later in the day for some AJ’s then headed out in search of some weeds. Plan was to run deep where we nailed the fins yesterday. Heard on the radio of some fins caught in 1100ft which was in the same area that worked for us yesterday so I was feeling good about our chances…

Hit 1150 and finally spotted our first weedline. Worked this area for a bit but nothing chewing. Ran around fished many of weed patches and lines from here to 1250ft this morning with zero fins. Fished these depths until around 11am then decided we had better hit the Hill in hopes of putting some BFT in the box.

I didn’t bring my trolling rigs as the plan was to hunt for fins today so we hit the Southern tip of the hill and dropped in some dines and fed out the line and FISH ON…

Jordan got hooked up immediately to his first BFT. Congrats Jordan for an awesome job :thumbsup

Went back to the same start point and made another drift with nothing chewing. Went back up again and this time we had a double header. Jalen was on the rod and caught his first BFT today as well. The other fish came unglued.

Left here and decided to put those large (12+ inch) blue runners to good use. Hit the AJ spot to find my bottom rod had another broken on/off lever for the free spool. Broken out the Phillips head screw driver and had to kick it in and out of gear manually.

On the forth drift we got smart and had it in free spool before we got there so all Leighton had to do was drop in the bait and let it down. Once on the bottom it didn’t take long. FISH ON…

This AJ smoked off 300ft of line in short order and Leighton was on his first AJ…

Today’s Tally
2 BFT
1 Greater Amberjack

Had a blast today even though we didn’t locate the fins. It sure wasn’t due to lack of effort. We ran up to 27 miles offshore and hit just about every weedline that looked fishable. We will get you that first fin next time Leighton. You and your family are welcome aboard the AF anytime. :thumbsup

Met Pro Fish N All Mark at the ramp today. Nice chatting with you and nice to meet you Mark. :thumbsup

Also met FISHHUNTR who had a boat load of Mahi... Congrats :thumbsup

How did you all make out today?

Tip of the day

Build your own T-Top box for storage for under $300. All you need is some Starboard, hinges, latches, screws and some wood working tools. I built one this past week and took me about 25 hours to make it. Mine is more for storage than electronics. Between it and my additional windshield, it should keep the captain pretty dry as well. :grin

Key is to take your time and remember that T-Tops are not square so each detail has to be measured twice and cut once. In even doing that I had to replace one piece. My goal was to downsize my tackle bag to give me more space on the top of my console. I will still empty it after each trip and bring my stuff inside the house but it sure makes for better organization for fishing.

I added some addition zipper pouches to allow me to store items that I had in my tackle bag. You can sometimes find these in Wal-Mart ($3.00) http://www.cumberlandconcepts.com/ . They make great storage bags.

Spotted this guy and had to snap a pic of his boat name. He stated that he reads my reports all the time. :thumbsup I told him that I had to snap a pic of his boat name as it was my lucky charm :grin

Is this what you guys call "The Corner" ?

Out in 1250ft...
