Jc Sportfishing Weekly Fish Report.
As the Admiral Seas It
Fishing Report: 7/2/12 to 7/9/12
The 3rd Annual Cabo Marine Show was held this past weekend, the 5th through 7th of July . It looked a little slow, maybe due to hot weather. I didn’t see a whole lot of traffic walking around, it might need a little more promotion. The booths were expensive this could have been a factor. Anyway there is always next year.
Jc Sportfishing Charters is a family owned and operated business and has been fishing in Cabo San Lucas for the past 18 years. Jerry, explains that his charter business is geared more for families and novice anglers, making sure everyone who charters a boat with him has a great time and lots of fun. We welcome families and groups. We want everyone who fishes with us to take all the sites in and have memorable experience. This is what is most important to us. We have and do a few tournaments each year and can accommodate fisherman who might be interested in tournament fishing. Lets get on with the report for this past week.
WATER: Well water temps are really getting up there, with temperatures in the 80,s throughout much of the fishing grounds.
WEATHER: July weather has set in and you know what that means. We have had some really hot days and you can really feel the intense heat. Seems like fourth of July was the turning point Last 4 days extremely hot and breezy.
BAIT: Caballito are in abundance this week with some mackerel. The bait is at the standard $3 apiece. Some frozen ballyhoo have been found on the bait boats.Try to find fresh frozen and not refrozen.
FISHING: The first part of the week started a little slow but really has come back with a bang with lots of fish being caught. With the water clearing up and blue water moving in, I think were in for some more consistant fishing and a blue marlin bite . Our boats did extremely well the second half of the week. Tuesday 4 Marlin caught on the Bob Marlin in the 1150 area. On Thursday and Friday of this past week lots of marlin caught closer to shore from 2 to 6 miles out, Santa Maria to pump station. The 1150 area was producing marlin and we even caught some sailfish. Numerous Marlin and Sailfish were in this area. The 95 area was good for Stripped Marlin over the last 3 days. I did hear of some hammerhead sharks being hooked at the Gordo Banks. This area was productive for marlin also. The fish are following the warm water current and the sudden shift in the water temperatures has changed the fishing like night and day. Looking at Terra fin water was 80 to 84 inshore just east of the arch on Friday. Today looks as if warm water is even wrapping around to the Pacific side up to the Golden Gate.
TUNA: We did get into the tuna and what a difference a week makes. Blind Strikes by Tuna out at the 1150 was good Thursday and Friday. The Gordo Banks area was producing Tuna 20 to 30 pounds, but no large schools being spotted . If things continue as they are this next week is going to be good.
DORADO: There were some Dorado caught in the 20 to 30 pound range . Much better for Dorado this past week . I did hear of some being caught all over our fishing grounds
WAHOO: Wahoo being caught at the 1150 on Thursday and Friday .Hoping with warmer water, to see action pick up.
INSHORE: It has been good with Red Snappers being caught on Pacific side and even numbers or Dorado. The Rooster fishing has been hot on boths sides of Sea of Cortez and Pacific. Some Sierra, on Pacific side, but not great numbers. Fishing Inshore from San Jose all the way to Golden Gate on Pacific side has been producing Marlin, Snapper, Roosters and some Sierra.
BEWARE: Remember if your not renting charter boats from companies who have been established in Cabo for the past 20 years ( Jcsportfishing, Pisces Sportfishing, Minervas, Redrum, Picante Fleet) you might have problems. There are many sportfishing fleets on the internet who are really not established business, operating illegally. Please charter reputable and established businesses.
Until next time good fishing and we hope to see you in Cabo soon. http://www.jcsportfishing.com
