Capt's Jimmy Gahm and Dave Bender hosted Debbie Graf and her cousins to honor her brother Richie who passed away before a courageous battle with cancer.
before booking the trip debbie had done her homework and spoke with many different charter operations, and we were the lucky ones to host this trip. debbie told me that she had to catch a tuna to honor richie. well, as luck would have it it was a slow morning trolling and the jigging fleet was not catching either, it wasn't too long that debbie said " when are we gonna catch a tuna dave" oh boy not too much pressure! the wwwb rod goes screaming off and jimmy handed it down to me, it was screaming and felt heavy, i thought this is a good fish. matt boehm did a great job on this fish, and after getting it to the boat we realized it was a nice yellowfin. ok deb, pressure is off, so i thought. it wasn't about an hour later deb said, " hey dave we need another tuna" we stopped trolling and set up on the lump to jig and bait fish, at about 1pm we got the bite but the fish came unglued. shortly thereafter deb released richies ashes into the ocean and said some beautiful words, i must admit jimmy and i were quite choked up. we cleaned up and headed for the barn.. deb has already told us " we'll see you next year" it was an honor to host this event.
