Trout, trout and more trout is the name of the game in Northern Sarasota Bay. Early morning trout action is about as hot as the weather in the middle of the day. The key is to weed through the 12-15" fish and find the 18-22" fish. The larger fish seem to be congregating near the smaller potholes with some deepwater access. Usually there is only one or two trout on the smaller potholes compared to dozens in the larger potholes. On the lower phases of the tide, the smaller potholes are easier to see. Working a Mirrolure Mirro-dine (17MR) through as many potholes or on the edges of potholes will get as many trout as you want to catch to the boat. Another effective method is a using a Mirrolure 5" Provoker jerkbait (MRSP5-45 or molting) on a 4/0 weighted hook. That same bait can also be taken to the mangroves and worked in the shadow lines for redfish and catch-and-release snook. Adding a little shot of Pro-Cure menhaden scent doesn't hurt either. Regardless of what situation that was fished this week, having moving water and bait activity were common factors when catching fish.
