Well, Montauk is getting back to normal, with all the charter and head boats back in the water and ready to go. But, most of the clients have more on their mind than fishing right now. None of the boats sailed on Friday or Saturday, but a couple managed to get out on Sunday. They all started out bottom fishing with fishing that could just be called fair, but the conditions weren’t the best. They all caught a mix of blackfish and seabass, but most of the seabass were on the small side. The Hurry Up gave it up and came back to the Point for some bluefish and enough striped bass to make it a decent trip. The commercial guys have been out during the week and bringing back 15 – 20 bass per day, which is better than it had been before the storm, so I guess we’ll have bass around for a while yet.
Earlier I posted that Gosman’s restaurant had lost part of it’s floor. That was a little off. What they lost was the patio type dining area to the north of the restaurant.
We caught too many seabass this year and the Feds have closed it in their waters for the rest of the year. As I understand it, the overage will be deducted from next years quota, so the regs might get tightened up again next year.
The local Surfmasters contest is still going on, but there have been no changes in the standings. The last couple of years there were few contenders caught after November 1 and it will probably be the same this year.
