I went fishing for 2 amazing days at Isla Blanca, near Cancun. I was very lucky to have Captain Rodman Hunter as my guide and he put me on some great fish. I am brand new to saltwater fishing, so I wasn’t sure what to expect on the water. About 30 minutes into fishing, I noticed fish frantically jumping out of the water about 40 yards from the boat. They were being chased by a silver prehistoric missile. The missile was a barracuda. I really wanted to catch one of those monsters and Captain Hunter made it happen. He instructed me on improving my casting, reading the structure and how to land these fish. We drifted in the flats in water ranging from a 12” to 15’ deep, while he spotted fish. I felt like I was hunting more than fishing. The water had amazing clarity and the weather cooperated with light winds for both days. I ended up with a great barracuda over 34”, over a dozen sea trout and a snook. It was an amazing trip and I can’t wait to go back.
