As far as the striped bass are concerned, the fat lady is screaming her ass off. It’s over. Early in the week the fishing was decent with the herring, but the fish were only in one spot, the Alaska Rip. Then on Wednesday word got out that the gillnetters had caught them pretty good on the south side. Friday the fishing was difficult with most boats only catching a couple. Sunday the Sea Wife had a morning charter and only managed one fish. Most of the boats that had been fishing were trying to fill out their commercial tags, and if they haven’t used them up by now it looks like they will have to hang them on the Christmas Tree.
Most of the interest from now on will be on the fishing for blackfish at Southwest Ledge or for the mixed bottom fishing south of Block Island for porgies, ling, codfish, etc.
I won’t be posting reports as regularly as I have been for the rest of the year unless there is something special happening.
