Default GALAPAGOS MARLIN FISHING REPORT JANUARY 3RD WEEK

    GALAPAGOS MARLIN FISHING REPORT

    San Cristobal, Galapagos Islands

We had the opportunity to fish with Lester Bianco and his lovely wife this week. Skies were cloudy both days we fish onboard the Vertigo.

January 20, 2013 after picking the Bianco's from the airport we left port for 0-30 Bank 25 miles NW. Arriving on the bank we found dolphins and plenty of sea lions which had not been seen on this bank in such number in years. The first action of the day was simultaneous bite of a big eye tuna and a striped marlin. Lester was able to land a nice big eye around 35#. Several big eyes were released with the largest around 60#. A second striped marlin was raised but would not take the bait. There was plenty of action from tunas around the dolphins. The tuna dinner got rave reviews by the Biancos.

On January 21, 2013 the Bianco's headed out on the Vertigo to 88 Banks. The day was overcast and the water was a beautiful dark blue. The bank was loaded with small bonitos and big eye tunas. Most too small to take the baits. The day went without producing a marlin but a couple of dorado took the baits and we managed to and one of 29# that would make a good dinner.

The weather patterns have been quit different lately and things seem to be changing for the good. We are looking forward to a good year as more bait migrates to these waters.
