We are moving thru February quickly in 2013 and once again the winter Tuna and Wahoo fishing out of Venice is excellent. The weather has been tough on us so far, we have had to cancel a few days, but when we can get out it has been very nice and the fish have been there. The largest tuna that came in so far for us was with the Danner crew and they were fishing with Capt. Alex. The fished weighed in at 191lbs. caught on 2/18. The good news is there are a bunch of them out there even bigger. Most of the big Tuna we have been catching have been hand fed right next to the boat and there have been a lot of them down there. Both Capt. Alex and Capt. Will said they had 5 or 6 fish well over 150lbs. feeding next to the boat. But, I was fishing right in the same area and our crew never saw a Tuna but still ended up with a couple over a hundred. We were able to feed about a 250lb. Mako right next to the boat. The first time he came unhooked and the second he broke the line with his tail. Get him next time. The water clarity has been good so we are able to see what we have in our chum slicks which really adds to the excitement. We have been having a lot of problems with Sharks and Kings cutting us off before getting the bait to the Tuna, but if your persistent enough eventually you will get what your after. The Wahoo bite has been as about sporadic as can be, but at the same time, that is normal for Wahoo. One day they are here, the next they are still here but just won’t bite. Go back on the third day and they bite in the same spot on the same baits again. So, right now timing is everything to get out and catch Wahoo. Amberjack are plentiful, most days we end up with a limit while fishing for Tuna so that tells you how thick they are right now. The fishing is very good right now so if your looking to get offshore and catch some big fish now is the time to go. Weather has been a bit of an issue but if your schedule is somewhat flexible we will get you out there. We still have some open boats this month and next.
The bigger tuna in the pictures are 191lbs. 180lbs., 146lbs., 141lbs., & 128lbs.
