We have on board Matt, Adam and his 5 old year son Aaron today. Were fishing out of SLI this weekend due to Adam & Matt bring their fish home to clean so no worries about having to touch the Toxic waters in the Manatee Pocket.
Were looking for anything that will bite a hook today. We headed out the SLI around 6am and heard there were no baits at the NE spot (Thanks Vindawg) so we ran down to Bullshark. Loaded up on a mix bag of small baits and some blue runners.
Ran out to Shrimpers and picked up a couple of cigar minnows and grunts. Hit my spot between Shrimpers and Evans Crary but nothing doing there. Ran over to Evans Crary and could only find grunts at first.
Got a shout out on the radio from a fellow forum member but didnít catch your handle and he told us the sardines were located on the west side. We motored over there and quickly picked up a Ĺ dozen or so of some very large sardines then headed due east.
We hit the stream and the seas went from sloppy 2ís to choppy 3-4ís in short order. We made it out to the Hill to drift some lives to see if the BFT were around. Made two drifts, one on top of the ledge and one just off the ledge with no luck.
Did manage to capture an Emmerson impersonator though on the front deck :grin
Decided to dial in the AJ spot to break the ice and found a solid weedline with large mats of weeds in 150ft so we fished this area for a few hours with no luck at all on locating anything except one shark. Not sure what type of shark this is.
Can someone give us an ID on this shark?
The current here was pushing us south which was abnormal for this area. We ran over to the AJ Spot and Matt drops down his secret yellow jig and quickly hooks up to 29Ē AJ.
Spotted a couple of water spouts out east of us.
Here is Aaron fighting an over grown Blue Runner. Congrats Aaron on a job well done.
Worked this area for about an hour with no other takers but did get a few bites. Ran over to a few of my bottom spots that I havenít fished on for years and quickly they were on some small Black Seabass.
Had this guy come up to the boat for a lunch break. Click pic below for a short underwater video.
Played around these spots for a couple of hours then dialed in the Sandpile and made one drift here before heading in to beat the rain.
6 Black Sea Bass
1 Large Blue Runner
We need to do it again sometime guys. I had a great time. :USA
How did you all make out today?
Tip of the day
Have some go to spots for when the bite is not on to save the day for your crew. For me it has always been my AJ spot and some bottom spots. This can turn a non-bite day into a rod bending day.
